ITALY – Acquisition of Altair Chimica in Saline di Volterra near Pisa. A well established chemical company manufacturing potassium chloride derivatives using membrane electrolysis technology.

ITALY – Installation of a plant for the production and storage of airport runaway de-icers at the site in Trecate.
UK – Installation of a new sulphur furnace for the production of bisulphites at the site in Wakefield.

UK – Acquisition of Brotherton Speciality Products Limited. An historic English manufacturer based in Wakefield, specialising in the supply of a wide range of organic and inorganic chemical products.

ITALY – Launch of a new sulphuric acid production facility at the Essemar plant in Trecate, with a capacity of 150,000 tons/y.
UK – Creation of EssecoUK LLP, Wakefield. A 50:50 joint venture between Esseco Group and Brotherton Speciality Products (Church & Dwight Group). Principle activity was the manufacture and supply of liquid bisulphites for the UK and Irish markets.

ITALY – Creation of Essemar, a 50/50 joint venture between Esseco Group and Marchi Industriale, for the production and supply of sulphuric acid produced from elemental sulphur.
ITALY – Installation of a new additional sulphur combustion furnace, designed to significantly increase the SO2 gas capacity of the Trecate site
USA – Acquisition by Esseco Group of General Chemicals’ shares in EGC. The company was renamed ‘Esseco USA’.
